Waveguide Characteristics Near the Second Bragg Condition

چکیده

We show that in an optical waveguide with no material losses at wavelengths near the second-order Bragg condition, there exists two pairs of modes. One pair has identical propagation constants but have different attenuation coefficients, while a second (different from first pair) and coefficients. The four coefficients may either positive value, representing power leaking out mode or negative external source into mode. Moreover, (negative) before (positive) after condition. Radiation condition periodic typically occurs angle perpendicular nearly to direction because scattering centers period equal close longitudinal constant In this paper, stable numerical solutions for modes dielectric structures are developed using Floquet-Bloch theory. primary focus paper illustrates unique method analyzing such eigenvectors forming Hilbert space, allowing expansion arbitrary vectors their derivatives used calculations as involving group velocities. dimension vector space is determined by number harmonics solution equations. accuracy affected harmonics; increased, partitions must be increased maintain given accuracy.

Nonreciprocal waveguide Bragg gratings.

The use of a complex short-period (Bragg) grating which combines matched periodic modulations of refractive index and loss/gain allows asymmetrical mode coupling within a contra-directional waveguide coupler. Such a complex Bragg grating exhibits a different behavior (e.g. in terms of the reflection and transmission spectra) when probed from opposite ends. More specifically, the grating has a s...

Large Bragg Reflection from One-Dimensional Chains of Trapped Atoms Near a Nanoscale Waveguide.

We report experimental observations of a large Bragg reflection from arrays of cold atoms trapped near a one-dimensional nanoscale waveguide. By using an optical lattice in the evanescent field surrounding a nanofiber with a period nearly commensurate with the resonant wavelength, we observe a reflectance of up to 75% for the guided mode. Each atom behaves as a partially reflecting mirror and a...

Dispersion tailoring of the quarter-wave Bragg reflection waveguide.

We present analytical formulae for the polarization dependent first- and second-order dispersion of a quarter-wave Bragg reflection waveguide (QtW-BRW). Using these formulae, we develop several qualitative properties of the QtW-BRW. In particular, we show that the birefringence of these waveguides changes sign at the QtW wavelength. Regimes of total dispersion corresponding to predominantly mat...

The Second-Order Digital Waveguide Oscillator

A digital sinusoidal oscillator derived from digital waveguide theory is described which has good properties for VLSI implementation. Its main features are no wavetable and a computational complexity of only one multiply per sample when amplitude and frequency are constant. Three additions are required per sample. A piecewise exponential amplitude envelope is available for the cost of a second ...

Demonstration of mode conversion using anti-symmetric waveguide Bragg gratings.

We experimentally demonstrate a novel grating which only produces reflection with mode conversion in a two-mode waveguide. That characteristic can improve the performance of optical devices that currently use tilted Bragg gratings to provide the mode conversion. Tilted Bragg gratings produce also reflections without mode conversion which increases noise and crosstalk of the optical device.
